A Reflection on Pineapple

Today we removed the water filters from their molds and made another batch. I can't reiterate enough how awesome these students are. Their enthusiasm at what we're doing is contagious. They're (rightfully) exhausted and are probably asleep by now (10 pm local time). We have a big day ahead of us tomorrow when we go into the rural areas to install the filters in people's homes.

On a completely different note, when ordering pineapple juice for seventeen people, make sure you specify that you want the pineapple juiced, and not seventeen plates of pineapple.

Without further ado, tonight's reflection is below.

Watermelon is an under appreciated fruit, along with the yellow watermelon often referred to as "pineapple." Watermelon is a far superior fruit to apples and yellow apples also referred to as "bananas." It has been a long time coming for watermelon to get the respect it deserves, and in my opinion it needs to have its own day dedicated to its glory! But for now we can just start by appreciating the things that we take for granted like fresh fruit and it's easy accessibility.

When you look around at people in this town you can see people who enjoy the small things in life, they are the kind of people who stop and admire how wonderful the day is, even though they don't have a lot. I personally think that being able to do that, especially when you don't have much and your whole life has most likely been a struggle to just be happy about life, it truly is a beautiful thing.
